Obituary

On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, Olga Rosser of Woodbine, MD peacefully passed away at her home at the age of 95.

Olga will always be remembered as a beloved mother to Denise and her husband Francis, cherished grandmother to Olga and her husband Shannon, adoring great-grandmother to Carter and Cooper, unconditional friend, and inspiring individual. Olga is reunited with her mother Marie, husband Luther, son Rick, cherished companions Morton and Fernando and many other loved ones. Olga’s vibrant spirit will be carried on by all who knew and loved her.

Olga was born in Baltimore, MD in 1925 to Anthony and Marie Sochurek. She was proud of her Czech origin and was a member of Sokol Baltimore from the age of 4 to 16 years. Olga graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore in 1945 where she went on to be a successful artist, favoring mixed media and collages. Her artwork has been appreciated in galleries across MD and by many private collectors in the USA and Europe. Olga enjoyed creating beauty, from beauty. She held active memberships in the National League of American Pen Women, Art Guild of Maryland, Maryland Institute Alumni Association, Rehoboth Art League and the Maryland Artist Association.

Some of Olga’s passions included showing dogs, bird watching, dancing, Tai-Chi, hosting gatherings, seeing the world, and a good glass of Moscato. While traveling she visited parts of the US, Europe, Canada, the Bahamas, and her family’s homeland of the Czech Republic. She will always be known for her sense of humor, her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit.

A small Celebration of Life ceremony will be held later in the fall season when the colors and the spirit are the most vibrant and lively.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Olga’s name may be directed to the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore (metro.uso.org) or Pets for Patriots (petsforpatriots.org) as Olga was an avid supporter of our military and in honor of her late husband who served in the United States Navy.
