I am very saddened to learn of Howard's passing. Howard's father and mother were dear friends of my dad. I remember visiting them at their farm in the 1960s. Howard sang so beautifully at my wedding. He, his parents and preceding generations were remarkable people who left a legacy of love and learning to Jack's children and the next generations.

A lot of people can look back at high school as the best four years of their life. I know I made some great friends during that time. But it was also a hectic time full of change, raw emotions, stress and trying to prepare for college. Mr. Scott was one of those few rare teachers who was incredibly good at his job and made you want to learn but also human and empathetic. He honestly cared about his students. He cared about your grade but he also cared about you as a person. I was a terrible student. French was my worst subject but Mr. Scott was my favorite teacher. He made you want to learn. He treated and taught his classes more like a college level class than a high school class. Mr. Scott’s class was worth the price of tuition. You learned even if you were not the best student. I was heartbroken to hear of his passing. He was a quirky awesome person. I remember how much he loved to garden and how if you were in his last class of the day and lucky enough he would give you the flower he brought in from home. I hope you have a bug free garden where you are now and the flowers never wilt. Tu vas nous manquer.

Howard was a gentle, kind man with a fine tenor voice. It was a true pleasure to sing with him at St. David's Church for over 20 years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Anne Apgar

Mr. Scott was my Spanish teacher (3 years) and Forensics coach (2 years) during my time at Catholic High. He was one of my favorite instructors. He always had a vibrancy that was unsurpassed, and he brought his many talents into the classroom- which made lessons even more exciting. Mr. Scott believed in me, even when I was far from believing in myself and he always let me know that he would never give up, so neither should I. I remember one time when I was super close to throwing in the towel he told me " You might not always see it , but you still should keep pushing for it". These words have followed me into my adult life and become more and more profound as time goes on. When my God-daughter went to audition for a Forensics Scholarship- 6 years ago, he hugged me and said "I hope you are still pushing." I couldn't believe that he had remembered that conversation and I assured him that I was.
The world will miss Mr. Scott, but he has left a hand print in many students hearts.
