Obituary

Ellen Teresa DeSantis (nee Desimone) passed away peacefully while comforted by her daughters on September 10, 2020. As her health declined over a prolonged period, her pleasant and gracious manner provided reassurance to those around her.

She was born in Buffalo, New York on May 24, 1939. After earning her bachelor's degree in English, she began teaching at Niagara Wheatfield High School in Sanborn, NY. She subsequently earned graduate degrees in instruction as well as administration as her career progressed. She taught GED curriculum at Goodwill Industries before specializing in collegiate mathematics at Essex Community College and the Maryland Correctional System before her retirement in the 1990s.

Her interests over the years included local history, camping and gardening. Family and friends fondly recall her involvement with bicentennial celebrations in her adopted hometown of Ellicott City, Maryland.

She is predeceased by husband Dr. Joseph P. DeSantis as well as parents Michael A. Desimone and Mary M. Desimone of Tonawanda, New York. She is survived by son Thomas M. DeSantis (Carely) of Temecula, CA; daughters Marybeth DeSantis and Kathleen DeSantis, both of Columbia, as well as Laurene DeSantis (David Brooks) of Shrewsbury, PA; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as her companion Kenneth Crawford.

Her family will gather in remembrance on September 17th at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Fulton followed by internment at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville.
