I remember when our architect recommended Skip as a builder, and when I met Skip he told me that his goal was to do this project and be my friend for life. I remember thinking that I wasn't looking for a friend for life, I just wanted a builder. I remember coming home early in the project and I asked some people where Skip was and they told me that he was walking my dog, Piper. He called her his sweetheart. I remember my wife Liz fretting over some problems with a storage space (not part of his project) and Skip showed up one day, just as his son described at the memorial - a bunch of shelving board and stands with numbers and letters to show how it fit together and he had the perfect solution for her. Skip saw how unorganized my fishing gear was and he and Steve showed up with a plywood prototype of a cabinet they later built with leftover mahogany. I grew to love his never ending stories and laughter and thought it was so funny that he was not talkative on the phone. He would pickup and say "yessir, whatdya got" and it was all business when I called. But when I was with him, it was business but lots of chuckles and smiles and stories. He was right. We were friends for life. Just wish it lasted longer. My wife and I loved to call him now and then with a small project or issue and he'd stop by and we'd talk for an hour. A delightful friend, he was. We will miss him dearly.
