Obituary

Daniel Edward Colleary
April 7, 1961 – October 16, 2019

Daniel E. Colleary passed away quietly on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Throughout his life Daniel carried an interest in, and displayed a savant-like brilliance, in the areas of science and space exploration. His thirst for knowledge and understanding knew no bounds. Daniel also possessed a gentler and reflective side that would shine in his other interests of art and gardening, pursuits that allowed his creativity to flow and sustained his nurturing nature. Daniel was a skilled chess player and attempted to, though not always successfully, teach the game to members of his family. Daniel also enjoyed time spent with his nieces and nephews where he would pass on his knowledge of any and all topics.

Events of the later years of his life, unfortunately, pulled Daniel away from much of his artistic interests and his studious side, and instead led him to his role as caregiver to family and neighbors. A duty he performed to the best of his abilities for many, many years.

Daniel will be missed daily by those he left behind; father William F. Colleary, sisters Christine M. Colleary and Kathleen A. Horn, brother William M. Colleary, his nieces and nephews William “Michael” and Kim Colleary, Jr., James and Katie Colleary, Sarah Horn, Shannon Colleary, Joshua Horn, Emily Horn, and Thomas Colleary, as well as his great-nieces Aibhlin and Caitlin Colleary. Daniel is predeceased by his mother, Phyllis M. Colleary, sister-in-law Eileen Bennett Colleary, and brother William F. Colleary, Jr.

Daniel’s surviving family has the consolation of knowing he has now found the peace he so deserved, and has joined his beloved mother, friends, and family who waited for him.

I was so sorry to hear about Danny's death. He was my best childhood friend from when we met at Rockland Elementary through high school at Mt. Hebron. I rode my bike to his home almost every day and we worked on our gardens together. We made so many trips to the woods and parks to dig up ferns and other local plant species to add to our gardens. Danny was so amazing in terms of his art and ability to draw, especially images of island chains and countries across the world. He had an amazing knowledge of geography. We would talk for hours and I adored his mom, dad and sisters, Christine and Kathleen who were still at home. Bill had left for college by the time I was able to spend lots of time at the Colleary home. I'm so sorry we lost touch after I went away to college and then moved to Boston where most of my family lives. I'll always cherish my memories of Danny and our times together. I pray that we'll one day have an eternity together to catch up and work the gardens together in God's amazing heaven. Your friend, Mark Stosz

May this tree give you comfort that Daniel lives on. Let it grow strong and tall and act as part of Daniel’s legacy. Take comfort that he is now watching over you as your very special guardian angel. With deepest sympathy.
