Anna Gloria Sofianek, age 88, of Catonsville, Maryland went to be with her Lord on the 14th of September 2020.

Born in West Hazleton, Pennsylvania in 1931 to the late Anthony and Maria (Rosti) George, Gloria was the youngest of four children.

Gloria was deeply devoted throughout her life to her faith and her family. Soon after marriage to Leo Sofianek, Gloria left the work world to support her loving husband and raise her two children. As the years passed, she spent countless hours volunteering at St. Paul’s Catholic Church and Our Lady’s Center of Ellicott City, St. Vincent De Paul Beans and Bread Center, as well as several nursing homes. After moving from her home in Ellicott City, she continued to volunteer, delivering church bulletins and communion to members of her senior living community.

During her life, she greatly looked forward to time spent playing with her grandchildren who she truly loved. They were often the topic of conversation to those outside of her family, as she recounted tales of what each was up to. She always checked to ensure that all was well with them and that they were safe, healthy, and happy.

The loss of her husband in 2018 was extremely difficult for her, as Leo was so much a part of her life, having spent over six decades of marriage together; may she find peace, happiness, and calm with the Lord and with Leo.

She is survived by daughter Karen, Karen’s husband Richard Gorsuch, and their children Jordan and Allie; as well as son Mark, his wife Inge, and their children Ian and Maxwell; as well as her brother Frank of West Hazleton, PA and sister-in-law Marie of Hazleton, PA.

The family will be having a private burial service at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville, MD, with arrangements through Slack Funeral Home.
